Amy Martin, Founder & Executive Producer
Amy (she/her) created Threshold in 2016. Under her leadership, Threshold has received a Peabody Award, a national Edward R. Murrow Award as well as awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Overseas Press Club, and the Montana Broadcasters Association. In addition creating Threshold, Amy has produced stories for NPR’s All Things Considered, PRI’s The World, Reveal, Here & Now, and other national outlets. In 2016, she was selected for the Scripps Fellowship in Environmental Journalism at the University of Colorado Boulder.
Erika Janik, Managing Editor
Erika (she/her) has her hand in every aspect of production at Threshold, from training and managing, to developing new projects, to helping edit and elevate our stories. She previously worked as the Director of On-Demand at New Hampshire Public Radio, overseeing the award-winning podcasts Civics 101, Outside/In, and Patient Zero, among other shows. Erika co-founded and oversaw Wisconsin Life, a multimedia storytelling project at Wisconsin Public Radio.
Deneen Wiske, Executive Director
Deneen (she/her) is Executive Director at Auricle Productions, the nonprofit organization that produces Threshold. She has over 20 years of experience as a nonprofit board member, professional fundraiser, communications director, and consultant for a wide variety of organizations. She holds a BS in biology from Old Dominion University and completed graduate school at the College of William & Mary, where she was a research biologist before stepping out of the lab and into the nonprofit sector.
Eleanor Cleverly, Marketing & Communications Director
Eleanor (she/her) leads audience outreach and engagement for Threshold, serving as the show’s promoter-in-chief. Most recently, she worked in marketing, product management, and business development roles at Meta and Amazon. Prior to that, she served as General Manager of Boston.com, The Boston Globe’s free digital news site. Eleanor holds a BA in behavioral science from Utah Valley University and an MA in media studies from The New School.
Jaha Nailah Avery, Producer
Jaha (she/her) is a writer, non-practicing lawyer, and creative storyteller. She brings to Threshold a commitment to truth-telling, a passion for history, and an aim to uplift BIPOC communities and voices. She holds a BA in political science and communications from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a JD from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. Jaha worked in startups for a few years following law school before launching her professional writing career in early 2021.
Sam Moore, Associate Producer & Social Media Storyteller
Sam (he/him) helps write and fact-check the show while bringing Threshold to the small screen as a social media storyteller. He previously worked on communications and outreach for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and spent several years as an itinerant wildlife biologist. Sam holds a BA in photography and environmental studies from Tulane University and an MS in environmental studies from the University of Oregon.

Dan Carreno, Chair
Dan (he/him) has 17 years of experience in the finance and sustainable investment industries. Throughout his career he has consulted with countless individuals and institutions to help them meet their financial goals while making a positive impact through their investment decisions. Dan holds an MS in environmental policy and management and is a Certified Investment Management Analyst®.
Caroline Kurtz, Vice-Chair
Caroline (she/her) was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio, and graduated from Vassar College with a BA in English. She received her MA in science communication from Boston University, and between 1981 and 1997 worked as a writer and editor in public affairs and communications, supporting organizations like Boston University Medical Center and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Upon moving to Missoula, Montana, she worked as a writer and editor of science publications at the University of Montana. Caroline and her family continue to enjoy the glorious open spaces and public lands across the state.
Luca Borghese, Secretary
Luca (he/him) was born in New York City and has worked in film production since 2000. His production company AgX—named for the chemicals that make photographic materials light sensitive—produces films everywhere from Seoul and Istanbul to Syracuse, N.Y. He worked at Sony Pictures Classics from 2004 to 2007 and has a BA in music from Yale University, specializing in theory and composition. Luca's an avid photographer with too many hobbies, one or two of which he hopes will become his next career.
Brittany Damico, Treasurer
Brittany (she/her) has worked in the financial services industry since 2007 and is dedicated to sustainable and responsible investing. She supports individuals, financial firms, and nonprofits whose goals align with growing a capital market system that serves people and the planet. She holds a BS in chemistry and environmental science from the University of Hawai'i and an MSc in ecological economics from the University of Edinburgh. Most recently, she co-founded a business designed to scale and elevate the voices of mission-focused asset managers. Brittany also serves her local community as a certified yoga instructor.
Hana Carey, Chair
Hana (she/her) manages programs and partnerships at Cortico, a nonprofit that brings underheard voices to the center for stronger civic spaces. Previously, she taught middle and high school history and organized educational programming and outreach at a journalism nonprofit advocating for equitable access to civics education. Hana holds a BA in anthropology from the College of the Holy Cross and an MA in museum studies from Johns Hopkins University. She loves the outdoors, studying Japanese, and all things basketball (go Celtics!).
Kara Cromwell, Director
Kara (she/her) is an ecologist and science communicator who finds inspiration at the intersection of ecological science and everyday life. As the founder of Confluence Ecology, she works with nonprofits and schools in her home community to engage citizens with the ecology of place. She’s also a faculty affiliate at the University of Montana, where she researches the ecology of predator-prey-parasite interactions and teaches. In her spare time, Kara feeds two small children and a sourdough starter that’s been in her life since 2007.
Eddie Gonzalez, Director
Eddie (he/him) works at the intersection of creative expression, spiritual care, digital media, and community engagement. With a BA in journalism and an MFA in creative writing, he became a hospice chaplain in 2009 and works to create meaningful spaces for storytelling, compassionate listening, and reflective dialogue. He has a deep interest in the relationship between inner and outer life and how the stories we tell can profoundly impact ourselves, each other, and the natural world. Eddie currently works at On Being.
